MSJW day 3

Hello! I'm sorry that I didn't post an update yesterday. I kinda forgot. Anyways lets get onto the update for today. In big news Aquosking has taken over as head developer for Stalkers. What this means is that he will be the one "making" the game. Basically he is doing all the work except for the music and some other stuff that you'll find when the game's done. I wont say now. Maybe later. As I promised yesterday (I think), here's a picture of something in relevance to the game. I wont say what/who/how its relevant. All I'm going to say is that it's an original character made by Aquosking. You can find it here: . I don't really have much to update on. I might just make my own separate game now that Aquosking is taking over this one. Also I'll leasve updates about this to him. I'll leave you guys for now. Until next time, good night and good luck. So as a part of the midsummer jam week, me, Aquosking, and Kayzeno are all working on making another game. This new game is called The Stalkers. Each day I'll make a new post regarding this game and it's progression. But now that Aquosking is working on graphics again, things will start to look alot better than the things I've made. The game will be done by next sunday whether it's actually "completed" or not. Although I have a strong feeling that it will be done. The concept of the game comes from Aquosking. I'm not going to reveal just yet what the game is about, but I will tease it every so often. I'll probably post a part of a screenshot. Actually, I'll probably post a quarter of a screenshot everyday. After the first one's done, I'll post a third of another screen shot and do that until the screenshot is done, which will probably be when the contest itself is done.

A general update on things

So there's some things that I need to update on. First off, I haven't really been working on Devin's Quest at all this week but I have a valid reason behind that. I had finals this week so I couldn't work on it at all due to me having to study. But now Final's are done and I can get back to working on Devin's Quest again. Also now I can get Kayzeno to work more to so the game isn't completely relying on me.

Over the next week I hope to have at least 1 more "world" done which includes a new boss, and a tutorial level done. If I can than I'll add in the story. But I find that to be highly unlikely since I can't find any text box tutorials that work or that I understand how to change.

First "technically" finished game

So...yeah. The game isn't Devin's Quest. It's just this game that I made as an entree to the 5th Bacon Game Jam. The game's called Light's Out. It's not really how I wanted it to turn out but given the time I had this is the best I could do. You can download and play it if you want. Not everything that I wanted tto be in it was in it. I might just make it better once Devin's Quest is done.

To be honest the game isn't necesarilly my most proud work but I'd like you to try to make a game with only 14 hours to work and with am amature knowlege of what you're doing.

DQ weekly update

It's time for a weekly update again. Since last time I've added in a boss of sorts, a new enemy, and some other stuff, but you most likely already knew that.

Over the long weekend I wasn't able to add in too much due to a busy schedule, but I did get cats to work again. I also had a working ammo system so you couldn't just fire infinite cats, but for some reason one day it went full potato and refused to work. Because of that I had to scrap what I already had. It's not ALL that of an important detail, so I'll save that for after I get the majority of the game done.

This week I plan to add in a begining sequence to explain the story to the player so they actually know what's going on without reading the description first. I'm also going to work on adding in some animation to the backgrounds, to further create the boss + boss level, and to at least get 2 level's done for a new area. 

I'm also trying to work out character customization and a "shop" esc thing where you use coins you find to purchase upgrades, to make it more like a game and to be less linear.

It's kinda late out where I am so I'll leave you with what I tell all of my friends, don't die, don't do drugs, and DON'T go into the third drawer to the left. I mean unless you wanna become the Lizard Queen of Guatalahoohar...

Devin's Quest update

This is just an update as to what's in the game so far

Animated title screen
First world about 95% done
2 enemies so far: Erik's and Slimes
2 attacks: Cats and Bullets

Things that need to change:
You can get stuck inside of a slime if it lands on top of you
Cats can only be fired if you're in mid jump
The third level is extremely hard to do - I've yet to even get past it
The settings button currently doesn't do anything
You die really easilly.
After you die you have to restart the whole game
Erik's are too easy to kill

You can infinitly shoot bullets - Eventually there will be limited ammo

Estimated release date - June 10-12?

How much is left:
7 more worlds, each with 3 area's and 1 boss which equals up to 28 new rooms to make, 7 unique bosses each with their own attack style, 8-16 animated backgrounds, a story with cut-scenes and such, more music, more sounds, character selection, ect.

All in all this game is going to take longer to make that I originally hoped for. At first I thought that it would be something that I could put together in a week or something but now it seems that it'll take alot more time than that, which is fine and all, since it's going to basically in the end make making Project X09 a hell of a lot easier to make. Keep in mind that this is NOT the weekly update for this week. That'll be Friday so I have a whole weeks worth of stuff to talk about.

Also before I forget, please give me feedback on how the game is because there's 47 people that currently are subscribed to it on Steam and I've only received 3 comments about it from people that aren't my friends. One of those comments is from someone that doesn't even play it. It's harder for me to make this game if I can't get any feedback about it.

Devin's Quest details

This is just an overall update as to what should be expected of Devin's Quest. I plan to have at least 8 "worlds", each with 3 regular levels and 1 boss level. If I can get character selection to work what'll happen is that you'll unlock a new character after each level, each with their own special weapons stuff. If I get finished within a reasonable time period and have extra time I may  a multiplayer option that would either work as a super smash bro's esc thing, a survival mode thing, or just make there be multiplayer levels. I don't know.

So far in terms of game completion, I have about 4 and a half world's designed on paper and almost have 1 world completed in the actual game.

My plan is to have the game done in about 2 weeks or so, although it may be in like 3-4 weeks depending on how long it takes to add in the story and to completely polish the game off with animated backgrounds, proper boss battles, cut scenes, and all that good jazz. 

I'll probably start posting weekly updates again since I actually know what I'm doing this time and are going at a good pace. Also, Kayzeno is now a pixel artist rather than a coder since he is better at pixel art than me. 

On another note, not everyone listed in the about us is still technically working with us. Only kayzeno and I have done anything towards this game. Stan has indirectly done stuff since we're using music that was already made by him.

Depending on how good the game is when it's done will decide whether it'll be for free or not. If it ends up being worth money it might be about $5. But if it doesnt seem like it's worth any money it'll be free.

A new game!

If you've looked at the home page you'll see that I've added a new game to the game progression list. It's called Devin's Quest. You may be asking yourself "What exactly IS Devin's Quest?" Well if you'd kindly shut your face hole I'll go into explaining. Devin's quest originally started off as a game made by request of my friend Devin. One day while I was working on TSoU and planning out some details on paper, Devin aproached me and requested that I make a game for him where all you do is shoot our friend Erik in the face. Originally all that I was going to add in for the game was a picture of Erik, and a sprite of me holding a shot gun. In the original, all you could do is press "x" to shoot pixel bullets at Eriks face. Although for reasons unkown I for some reason took it into my own hands to turn this basic idea into a legit game with an unlinear story line and everything.  While working on it I basically made the fundamental basics of project x09. So basically, when this game is done, making project x09 is going to be alot easier

Weekly update #4

Okay so this one may be a bit short because I'm typing this a bit late.

Like the last couple of updates I again regret to say that my lazyness has taken the best of me. Except this time I have gotten absolutly nothing done. Although I have thought of a plan to get stuff done now.

As for the screen shot that I promised, I can currently do that right now but I will get it done tomorrow. It's currently 10:00PM and I can't really do it now.

Anyways I'll try to get a basic prototype finished and ready for testing and stuff as soon as possible. If all goes to plan than it should be done in like a week or two.
